New 1650 owner in central Ohio

Glad to be part of the group. I've been looking for a good (old) garden tractor to take care of odd jobs like snow removal and trailer pulling. After a couple of months of looking at craigslist postings of almost every garden and lawn tractor made I started to gravitate towards the Cub Cadets. After spending time on this forum I sprung for this nice condition 1650 I found on my local Craigslist. It has the dual hydro controls and a mower deck. It runs pretty well, but I think it will need the modified engine mount treatment. The hydro levers are stuck but after scouring the posts here it sounds like some PB Blaster and some gentle hammer taps on the hydro block might fix the problem. Other than that, if I can just find a QA42A snowthrower I should be set for winter. :)

Hello and welcome! Quiet lines are my favorite series and the 1650 is an awesome tractor. I have had my eye on that one from the Columbus area for a few weeks now. I am glad someone who appreciates older IH Cub Cadets owns it. BTW, I have a QA42 snowblower that is in excellent shape if you are interested. Have fun with the 1650!:beerchug:

It was all the love for Quiet Lines on this forum that convinced me it would be a good buy. So far I'm not disappointed. As soon as I had it off the truck I mowed an acre, ran it up and down the road a couple times, and took it up a steep grade in front of my house. It handled everything like a champ.

You have my attention concerning your QA42.

I really like the Quietline series of Cub Cadets, and it looks as if the one you just scored is in very good condition. Those motor mounts are important in the Quietline series of tractors. Once you get your fixed, they will be good for a very long time. There are many theories on ISO mounts (that is what they are called). I have mine and others here have theirs, so there s lots and lots of help.

Mainly, just enjoy that tractor! I hope you like yours as much as I enjoy mine.

Thank you bkw3614 and Diz Jr. I have no regrets about buying this 1650. With the help of this forum I know I can fix any problem that might come up. I sold a little JD 100 lawn tractor earlier in the week to help with the purchase of the 1650. I have an old 54 Ford NAA that I inherited from my granddad. I use it to run a flail mower and light grading. I have a Gravely zero turn for the rest of the mowing. This 1650 will take care of everything else.

I was happy to see that I can trace some of the mechanical heritage of my 1650 back through the old red Farmall Cubs that I've always wanted.

Good luck with your new tractor. Looks like the deck is in good shape, still has the grass deflector on it.

Welcome to OCC! That mechanical heritage is why I'm collecting them
There is a guy about 1/2hr from me that won't part with his 1650. I know it has not moved for a long time.

Thank you twoton and Terry C! Here's an update. With some WD-40 and some gentle leverage against the tops of the valves, I was able to free up the dual hydro controls. They work great now!:biggrin2:
