1864 Exhaust
Recently got a 1864 with the CH 18S motor. Previous owner had a overheat problem and dropped a valve. He fixed it, but still ran hot. Bought some parts from the Cubmaster in VT. He asked about the muffler. If it sounded like a jar of pennies? It did. He stated it was most likely the problem (plugging exhaust opening) and to get a new one. Has anyone opened the exhaust up and removed the baffles? Going to try it? How does it run after if you have done this? I know its going to be loud.

I've never done what you suggest, but at this point you don't have much to lose. If it doesn't work you can buy a new muffler. Last time I checked they were still available.
I would check that the cooling fins are clean and that it's not running lean. That could also make it run hot. |
I have several times. It is a broken baffle. Cut open the right side and weld it up then weld a cap on the opening. Will be a little louder when done!

If this goes bad for you the muffler is still available but it is pricy.
