The Mr Coffee coffee maker was brewing rather slowly lately. So, I decided that it was time for a internal cleaning. Got my cleaning solution out (acid) and run it through the brewing process 3 times to get rid of the lime & calcium build up. Seems that wasn't a good thing to do. The heating element loop in the bottom developed a leak. Now my $25.00 coffee maker is junk only after 20 months of service.......:angry::beer2:

Well Roland all I have to say is don't fall victim to the keurig coffee maker craze. My wife's aunt got us one and I mistakenly got rid of the old fashioned one. Big mistake. Just not a fan of how it brews and doesn't seem to ever get the coffee hot enough. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm also a big Dunkin Donuts guy and just say no to Starbucks.

Lesson learned I guess, no more cleaning!

$25 bucks for 20 months of use isn't to bad, everything should have that return on investment.

Actually, the model that went bad is still made. I bought the same exact thing again.

I use to buy Bunn coffee makers, Much higher priced but they only last 5 yrs. The cost per year was higher. Went back to the cheapies. Run'em till they quit, throw it away, and buy a new one.:beerchug:

Percolator, real coffee, lasts forever. Plenty of grounds in the bottom of your cup. Gives you something to chew on.

Perc coffee is the best. Or cowboy coffee. Stay up for hours on end. My stepmother makes Turkish coffee, you chew all of that. The Mr Coffe my mom bought in 1982 lasted nearly 20 yrs, the element that kept coffee warm quit.

We use white vinegar to clean the coffee maker when it starts to slow down.

+1 on what Jeff uses. It's cheap and seems to do a pretty good job.

+2 on Jeff's suggestion every 6 mos. as part of a preventative maintenance plan. I take care of my mom's Bunn coffee maker and it is on 15+ years. Only needed to replace that gasket set once and Bunn sent me a free replacement set for it.
