Sunstrand vs Hydro gear differances?

I'm looking for the differences between the two, a link on already posted info or a web page link or even to pick your brain. Is one as good as the other? What are the good and band points? Are they interchangeable? And what ever other points worth mentioning.

The output shaft to the rear spins clockwise, the otheranti clockwise.

Just my 2 cents but I think the Sundstrand is a better hydro. The Hydrogear is good and was used on some of the Cyclops tractors like the 1440, 1641 and 1863. They are a little limited when it comes to being able to support power steering. They are not interchangeable. Lots of internal differences between the 2. When you get up to the 3000 series Hydrogear changed the charge pumps to support power steering. If you want more info look at the service manuals.

Kinda like comparing a ford engine and A chevy engine and a mopar engine. all are engines but different and the parts won't interchange.
I go along with liking Sunstrand better. :bigthink:

I personally have no experience with the Hydro-gear but is it even possible to do any better than a Sunstrand coupled to an IH rear end?

What are the differences:
Two different manufacturers. It's like the difference between a Chevy 350 and a Ford 351. Yes, they are both V8's and relatively comparable in size and application, but two very different things.

Web page or link:
Just look in a parts book at the internal parts

Is one as good as the other:
Simple answer: NO. Sunstrand makes a much better Hydro.

The good and the bad:
Sunstrand are more smooth, built better and last longer. HG's are known to grenade and do not operate as smoothly.

Are they interchangeable:
No. The adapter housings are different (but will interchange) and the hyd lines that run to and from the unit are different.

My advice:
Sundstrand all the way.

Thanks for the info guys. If the pumps are not interchangeable then can you swap the whole rearends over without to much trouble? A direct bolt up would be nice but that would be asking a lot.

Yes. You can swap the whole rear end. You will need the lines though.
