Bought my first smoker CCC 882
 

Just bought my very first diesel cub today an 882. It's in fair shape missing the side panels but runs great and the 44 inch mowing deck is quite as a mouse only 1142 hrs. I did notice that it had a few leaks under the rear end. I don't know a lot about this model anything I should check for or any known problems inherent with this model??.

Congrats on that find! I had a 1512 (same model just newer - 1986?) for 20 years. I just sold it this summer to someone that approached me to buy it. When I bought it in 1995, the hour meter had been replaced and it had new rear tires. I think its first 8 years of service was full time commercial duty. It had LOTS of hours on it. I put about 600 hours on it. You will love the Kubota.

I replaced the hydro relief valve on mine, back in the '90s, because it was leaking fluid all over the rear end. That worked for a very short while and it started leaking again. I just kept a piece of cardboard under it from then on. Maybe the power or vibration of the Kubota has something to do with the leaking? I don't know.

It starts MUCH better if over 40 degrees - I fought it for 4 years and then put heat in the shop and everything was fine after that. Make sure the cables are good and your have a strong battery. Interstate makes a good one that will fit in the small space.

About five years ago I started having fuel issues. It would run for about 5 minutes of snowblowing and would run out of power. Shut it off for a few minutes and it would run again for about 5 minutes. It ended up being "floaties" in the fuel tank.

Just follow good maintenance practices and if it is in good shape that 30 something year old garden tractor will still last for GENERATIONS. If you run into a problem just ask here if you need help.

I would check the bolts that attach the diff to the frame and make sure they are not loose or possible broke. It (your leak) could be axle tube or rear cover gaskets also. You'll just have to clean everything and see what you find.
But the first thing would be the diff attachment locations...:bigthink:

I really appreciate the advice I pulled the center cover off that's between the seat and the dash and sure enough it does look like it is leaking around the relief valves next I will check the differential bolts on the frame and in the rear cover. Once again, I really appreciate your advice you guys are great on here

Just curious will any 82 series sleeve hitch work on this machine??

Any off of a hydro model.

You have the alum. rear end,to use a sleeve hitch you will need a different lower bracket and check for clearance on your fuel tank for the top mount.

bsb369, congrats on a great little tractor.

You will need to find a cat 0 hitch because the fuel tank will be in the way of the top lift lever. Then you will need an A frame adapter to use sleeve hitch equipment.

If you pull the fenders, pull and clean the tank too. Check, clean or replace the tank fittings, replace the fuel lines and filters and you won't have to worry about fuel issues for years.

Check the drive shaft and rag joints for any wear.
