882 drive shaft

1 Attachment(s)
Tore into the driveshaft on my 882 today to replace the self centering bushing. When I went to start taking it apart I noticed that someone had put a bolt in place of the spiral pin on the transmission side. As soon as I saw it I knew it was going to be bad but I didn't know how bad. The coupling is worn but I can order a new one of those the worst part is the hole on the transmission shaft is badly wallowed out. Any ideas on the best way to repair it?? Thank you for any and all help.

Get a used trans. Less costly and easiest fix. That shaft alone costs more than you would ever pay for a used trans. Plus, you have to completely disassemble the trans to remove it. Hardened shaft, so you can't weld it up. Only other possible solution is to drill it to a somewhat more round hole and hope you don't break the shaft down the road.

Put a new bolt in and run it till it dies.

I think I'll do both....put a new bolt in it and run it till I find another transmission then just change them out as much as it sucks that probably the easiest fix. Thanks for your help I knew as soon as saw that bolt in there it wasn't going to be good lol.

A hydro goes for around a $100 more/less, don't ask about a shaft as others have said.
Save yours for parts.

Get some of this stuff, mix it up, fill the hole and any other sloppy areas, then slap it back together. Cant hurt it at this point and may buy you some time for not much $$.

I'd do it. Nothing to lose. :beerchug:

Thought about drilling it out to a more round hole then sleeveing the hole to the right size.... But at best it would still only be a temporary fix...eventually it will fail and I'll have to put another transmission in
