Snow thrower upgrade?
I see where smaller pulleys can be used to speed up the auger. I need to throw the snow 20-30 feet. Is the QA-42A in it's original configuration up to this or do I need to install the smaller pulley?

The distance the snow is thrown is contingent on a number of factors. Of those factors, is the snow itself. A light dry fluffy type of snow will go a lot farther than a heavy wet snow used on the same parameters.

Snowthrower
I use a QA-42A on my 1450 and it throws snow just fine. It depends on the type of snow that we get dry powdery snow it will throw it 20 to 30 feet. wet snow only about 15 feet. Mine uses the stock pulley, you can put a smaller one on but it in my opinion it does not need it. If you replace the pulley do not use a cheep one or you may end up getting it removed from a body part at the hospital. Check out threads with people using the wrong style pulley. Good luck

I now have the same results as amflyer, but I went through and rebuilt mine because it could barely throw snow out of its own way and was always clogging. A PO had used it on a stone driveway and deformed the paddles and corresponding housing. Once I built up the paddles, patched in new metal to close the gap (3/16" or so) and painted the housing and chute it throws great. The hardest part for me is keeping a belt on it, but I think that is more to do with the rubber mounted engine on my 1450 and cheap tsc belts.

Thanks for the great info. The snow thrower will only be used for light fluffy snow. I use the front & rear blades for the heavy wet stuff. As I hate changing attachments, I'll be looking for a 2nd tractor this year. Had 2-1450s and let momma talk me into selling one. What do they say "1st time shame on you, 2nd time shame on me".
