1340 not moving

I recently purchased a Cub Cadet 1340 in need of repair. I have got the engine running pretty well but now the mower does not move backwards or forwards. I don't know the history of the mower but I have had an overview of the transmission and read a service manual and starting with the charge pump the forward and reverse check valves seem ok, the implement relief valve is in place but the charge pump relief valve (number 4 as shown in the pressure check paragraph) seems to be missing. My question is should it have one as it is not shown in other diagrams.

First, welcome to OCC......... :Welcome2:

First thing(s) to check, is there enough Hydro Fluid in the rear end to satisfy the pump...???

Is the filter plugged?

Thanks for your replies. I have checked the fluid level and it is a little above full and looks fresh but I have not had the filter off to check that.
I am in the process of getting a pressure tester to test the pump but my question is about the Charge Pump Relief Valve. Should this model have one and is it on the side of the pump. My pump has no parts in the location described in the service manual just a pipe plug.

The 1340 has a Sundstrand (Sauer-Danfoss) 15U Hydrostatic drive unit it. There are manuals in out Technical Library Section.

Check to see if the input shaft to the Hydrostatic Unit is is running at the same speed (RPM's) as the drive shaft.

Roland

The 1340 has the CV drive shaft, the input for the pump is splined so it's not likely that the pump is not turning if the engine is running. My bet is a plugged filter or the check valves are stuck. That said I'm going with the standard "Change the fluid and filter" recommendation.

Edit: I love it when we hear "The fluid looks clean" "it's a little over full" Yep it has 2 QT's of water from condensation sitting in the bottom of the case from sitting for a long time. Start it up and instant plugged filter. Then we want to blame the pump. I've lost count on how many of these we have seen this year alone.

Yeah, I seen that. I was wondering if the splines got "chewed" up. It was to make sure the charge pump was doing it's job.

Henry, welcome from across the "pond"!!!!!
You have received good advice from the fellows, and if your cub has sat outside or in a humid environment and you don't know the history as stated, it is a good idea to remove the rear cover of the differential, drain and clean/flush it as well.
That will also give you an indication of things inside.
You can use mineral spirits, Kerosene or brake cleaners of the like.
Put on a new gasket and don't overtighten the bolts.
Refill with new fluid and put on a new filter.
Then you will eliminate 75% of most peoples problems,as others have said.
The drive system you have is pretty much problem free, and been used many years.
If you can, shoot us some pictures of your question of a missing relief valve.
It is always possible someone has removed some parts, or "worked" on it, but most times it is the simple things, always best to start simple first.
You can go to WWW.partstree.com and look up your model and see the specific parts that were installed in your hydro from the factory.

Keep us informed. :beerchug:

A 1340 is a manual lift tractor and it should not have an implement valve. You should have a Non Ported pump. This is from the Cub Parts site.

Thank you all for your help. Not having worked on one of these before I don't know to look for the simple things, however the Sundstrand (Sauer-Danfoss) 15U Hydrostatic drive unit site has explained a lot about the position of the check valve and now I will check the filter and change and refill with fluid as advised.
I'll come back if I need more help.
