50" or 44" deck
A friend of mine is looking to sell his red 782 which he says has a 50" deck. However, I am trying to determine for sure whether it is a 50" or a 44" without asking to take a look at it and whipping out a tape measure because I have doubt.
My concern is because i noticed the tractor I'm looking to buy does not have any outer wheels on the front edge of the deck, only the center roller and the outer skids. However, i saw some pictures of a guy on this site rebuilding a 50C deck and it definitely had the outer front wheels. Does this mean the tractor i am looking at has a 44" deck or did IH have 50" decks with different wheel/skid setups? Basically, does every 50" deck have three wheels along the front of the deck or do some of the 50" decks have one center wheel with skids at the sides? Thanks for your help. |
Well,,,,,
Assuming these photos are accurate it looks like the 50C deck must have varied over the years. These photos show the 50C deck without outer front wheels.
http://ccmanuals.info/pdf/QA%2038-44...s%20Manual.pdf However, i know i have seen photos of 50 inchers with the outer wheels,,,, I guess I am still interested to hear the setups those of you with 50" decks have. |
Easiest thing to do would be to have him read you the deck serial number... The first two digits are the deck size.

rollsroyce1999, the IH 44/50C decks did not have front guide wheels. However the MTD 44/50GT decks did. Extreme motorworks makes front guide wheel mounts though. The PO that I picked my 682 up from put them onto the 44C deck that came with mine.

My 50C deck DOES have front wheels.
RollsRoyce is correct, the 44/50C series decks could have either front runners or front wheels. |
My 50C has front wheels and my 44C does not.
