Cub Cadet 1872 SG Tractor - Oil and PTO Clutch Woes
Hi all,
Today when I went to mow the lawn, the blades quit moving. I pulled it over to the driveway thinking the grass had clogged up or I spent a belt. She was leaking oil pretty bad on the driveway. I made sure there was oil in the engine to prevent engine damage. I pulled the front end apart and it appears the oil seal on the PTO shaft is leaking. I can't find the part in the parts tree online - anyone know where to locate it? I tried to reengage the pto and the blades spun, but not as well as they used to. I am thinking I may have gotten oil on the clutch friction plates? I did notice that the plates did look a little worn - I can see ridges in them. Do I need to replace them? I don't think the clutch has been adjusted....ever. My dad didn't take too much time to maintain this machine. However, I want to make it right. PS how does the PTO clutch work? I figured there would have been some friction material in there similar to a motor cycle or car clutch. I just see two little ridges. Does the driven side move towards the engine when the coil is energized??? Thank you! |
I notice the bearing the driven side is not so smooth. Know where I can get one of those?
Also, I have added pictures: http://imgur.com/a/Kpohc |

Download the shop manual from our tech section. Bearing IIRR is a 6206 commonly avail most any parts stores/ebay Clean the clutch up with your favorite parts cleaner reassemble with new bearing and set air gap to .010 no lining in the clutch, steel to steel.:beerchug: |
The number George gave is correct, to find it on partstree look under crankcase, then rear seal, as the front of the tractor is the rear of the engine.

Kenny, Hope you get your PTO woes fixed.
On another note I really miss your chicken! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U1KR0wQP61c |
LOL, I love that scene.
Kenny! Kenny! |
Thanks for the help guys! Steel on steel, who da thunk it.
So would I be correct to assume the metal tangs holding the driven plate to the sheave flexes ever so slightly to engage? Otherwise I don't see what slides/moves. Must be one powerful magnet! |
