Hidy from Alabama
Frank here. Old and ugly, but still going. Not the cub, me.
Farmer and full time tractor mechanic (agricultural). Proud vet and former B52 crew chief, former truck driver and half a million once was atop all. We had a campground till a few years ago and in 73 we needed a new mower. We bought a big ole 16 hp white (single cylinder b&s). It was a nightmare of a mower but is still handy on the farm as a gas powered mule. We already had a cub cadet (original) and a lo boy, so we knew better than to stray. Lesson learned, we bought a brand new cub cadet 1000. I can't remember if that was 74 or 75 but man that was a huge chunk of well spent money. Grandpa named her gogo case she just did whatever ya asked of her. She did so for many years...... right up to eight years ago. She was stolen, along with ole yaller (the original), the lo boy, Grandpa's 1938 m38 JD, a 100 I had bought in the eighties as a work/toy, and three boats along with stuff they grabbed along the way. Sad thing is, we were gone to town for all of 4 hours when they took it all. Bought a couple junk mowers to get by with till 5 years ago and traded a makarov for an slt1550 cub...... didn't know about the Chinese courage engine, let alone the MTD deal. Saw it had less than 10 hours, was sorta yellow and said cub cadet. Was even willing to overlook the hydrostat. This one's name is Pistol. Betcha can't guess where the name came from. Man, I want that little pistol back. Ah well, I have the mower..... just spent bucks on it yet again, but it ain't why I'm here. I got Grandpa's Deere John back a few months after it was stolen. An auction in SC had it and reported it's questionable situation. I actually found my old stolen john boat on feebay several years ago. Still had my registration numbers and the last sticker (tag) I had put on it. Contacted the seller and told them it was stolen and that I had the original sell slip with serial and tag receipts for that reg number for many years, as well as the police report. Would ya believe they were super decent about it, called their local police and reported the situation. If that's not enough, they delivered it from Jacksonville, FL. Well, good does happen folks. GoGo is back home. It mysteriously appeared at our old property Saturday a week ago. No mistake, it's GoGo. Still has my youngest Daughter's marker scribbles on the deck. She's MUCH worse for wear, but she's back! I'll try to remember to get some pics this weekend and maybe find some old glory day pics. Haven't tried to start it and won't. She's getting redone. Driveshaft is shot as is the pilot and probably worse. Clutch is in wrong. Motor flops about with little clue that isolators were once on the cradle. (Will get cradle mod and will have to study on solid vs isolators). One side panel is missing. IH grille badge is broken. Someone's welded a chunk of square tube to the front that presumably had a trailer ball on it. I suspect the same person welded a piece of pipe to the differential cover, making its hitch permanently part of the cover. Warped the snot out of the cover and needs a new one. Deck handle grip is gone. Seat is dead and wrong anyway. Steering wheel might be salvageable. Shift knob is beyond hope and I definitely want the shift pattern "thingy" back. Always thought that thing was nifty, so I'll have to find another. Not a decent tire on it. No deck drive belt. PTO clutch condition unknown. Looks rough at best. She'll be back in all her shiny splendor and I suspect I'll be owing thanks to here and many of ya (why I even know about the cradle mod). I happen to know a massive used parts collection is headed for the recycler as soon as steel goes up, so I'll be calling the owner tomorrow. Former owner of two generation dealer sold out and new owner is scrapping. Hopefully I can get lucky. Oh! Do the 1000 side panels happen to be the same on any others? Well, if'n ya read this far, bless your tired eyes and have an awesome day! Frank (aka Freaky) |
Welcome to OCC Frank and good luck with your restoration.
Just to get you started, yes the side panels on all the Quiet Lines (800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450, 1650) are all the same. |

Here she is dropped off unceremoniously beside the shed. Tried better pics inside, but I'm technologically challenged and none came out.

If anyone's in need, I do have an extra right side panel I'd gladly trade for anything I need, even the IH emblem, or for a handshake, a thanks or even better, a picture of it put to use. Quote:
