Limped back to the shed

Dad tells me the 982 has "an issue". He was mowing today and when he tried to lift the deck, only one side came up. Think he finished mowing and then limped back to the shed. My first thought is one of the hangers came loose. He said as best as he can tell everything is hooked up properly--at his age he can't really crawl around on the ground to check all that. He suspicions a roll pin in the rock shaft. This is new to me, anyone here ever run into this? I'll probably get it in the shop Saturday, but first I got to set the points on his 122 and put an injection pump back on one of the farm tractors--got to do all that just to have room to get the 982 in the shop.

I think your suspicions are correct, John. A hanger either came loose or maybe something (stick)is in the way and obstructing it. It could be a cotter pin is spun around and preventing the undercarriage from collapsing to raise the deck or something small. Hopefully it is a quick fix for you. Always great to take care of dad (one of the Top Ten on the list!).

You'll need to start checking at the deck mounts and work you way up from there. Hopefully it is simple. :Unknown:

Not really common but I remember somebody had one shear. It would explain why it all looks ok

Found out why the deck was lifting uneven. One of the spring loaded pins wasn't in the the hole in the mule drive. The mule drive was actually below the pin. Didn't really seen anything bent or spread open too far. Not certain how this could have happened. Dad swears he didn't hit anything or swing the machine on the mower deck. When its a little cooler I'll see if I can figure out/mimick over-travelling the deck by lifting that side and see if it tries to unlatch. Looks to be the same setup as my 2072, never had it to happen on that machine. Any of you guys running Haban's ever had this to happen? In the meantime, its back to cutting grass.
