My 129
I have to admit that this isn't the next one up for garage time but if I can only wind up being able to keep one of the several Cubs that I have at the moment it will be this one. I like the look a little bit more than the quiet lines.
I do have a engine-less and otherwise rough looking 1650 that will be donating it's hydraulic lift to this machine. Probably it's ported pump too. I don't have the numbers in front of me but remember finding out that it is a June '72 build. I got it to run shortly after I got it but have the carb off to rebuild and rebush it. I have been slowly getting parts for it as it sits, waiting for its turn, like a shift handle that isn't stripped, and a billet engine side drive coupler, as its original was shot. The next issue that I need to figure out with it is a constant lurch forward. The starter generator wouldn't crank it over as the trans was fighting it. I took the drive shaft out and it fired up like no tomorrow. In working the hydro linkage and watching the linkage move, I could see it return to center when I hit the pedal, but even when I went to reverse thinking that if the issue was due to sloppy linkage that had to go past center to really get neutral it still wants to pull forward and strain the starter generator to where it can't pull the engine over.... it would crank abt 3/4of a revolution then kick back repeatedly until I pulled the shaft. What gives?? |
Check you filter and especially you fluid in your transmission/rear end to see how gloppy and thick it is.....probably time for a change!

Looks like a brand new filter and the PO gave me 2extra qts of the hydro Tran fluid, told me that the relief plungers were bad that "they all need them". but they aren't stuck down, seem free.

What you are calling relief plungers are check valves. One is forward, the other is reverse. Remove them, soak them in PB Blaster. Get them to work freely, then re-install.
Both are the same, so no worries on keeping them separate. |

well, if the tractor wasnt trying to pull forward as I was trying to crank it over, I might agree with you on the ACR but it would not have spun over quite so easy when I unhooked the shaft to stop the lurch if that was part of the issue, right?

I agree, I don't think it is the ACR. It sounds like the trunion is worn and/or neutral is off of center. Read through the link Maxwell (cub cadet 123) listed and perform any repairs needed to the trunion. Then reinstall the drive shaft and start the tractor. You may have to move the hydro lever as you crank to find the spot where it is not loading the engine and allows it to start. Then follow these instructions on adjusting the neutral position. http://cubfaq.com/neutraladjust.html

ok so if this trunnion and associated parts are worn out then would these parts off the 1650 be the same as a 129? (I do not have either machine here to compare them, they are tucked away in the storage barn 30-ish miles away)
