Questions

Ok guys, I have a few more questions about the little gems.:bigthink: Any help is better than nothing, so thanks in advance.

1.) what weight oil is used in the 3 speed rear end. Is it just same old rear end grease.

2.) can you get new clutch disks for these things? I can't seem to find one. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

3.) what color were the grilles on the 73? I have seen them silver, black and white.

4.) are the headlights used in the 73 option a special brand and/or number?

For the rear end you can run sae 30, or hytran. The clutch disc are easy to find eBay or your local cub cadet dealer sells them. As far as the grill color my 73 grill is silver, not sure if it was that was factory but it appears to be original. The headlights as I'm sure you know were an option but I believe we're made by cub cadet.

Rear end grease is too heavy won't let you shift in the cold. HyTran is best
73s that I have seen are silver

Sorry, you can also check with the sponsors above for your clutch parts they have them.

You can use the parts lookup at

http://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/cu...vice-and-parts

You can order a lot of parts directly from Cub Cadet still. You can also use the sponsor links at the top of the page. It even gives you bolt sizes for a lot of things, so you can use it for a lot of things.

Goto the technical forums and get the owners manual and service manual for your tractor.

As for rear end. The definitive consensus I've found on here is that official Case-IH Hytran is the best. You get mixed responses about HyTran equivilents. The same as you get when asking about any aftermarket v oem part. Use your best judgment there. IMO if it says it meets specs, then it should perform the same. Case is a big company and would be serving cease and desist orders if a company as large as TSC was selling a knock off that didn't go through the proper procedures to certify something as compliant.

As for headlights, use the tool to look them up. I know on my 149 they are a standard size available anywhere. Can't remember off the top of my head, but they aren't Cub specific.

I'm pretty sure the grills were zink coated.

Headlights are 4411's (industry standard number) I keep thinking GE was the brand that came with a new Cub.

If you don't mind my asking, what is zinc coating? I have never really heard of that, but if that's what they were, I want to do it up original.

Better get out your wallet, there's plenty of spray paints that replicate the zinc coating.
