I recently picked up a 1650 with this little gem of an engine. PO had engine rebuilt. OOOPs! This failure was not caused by launching of balance gears or lack of lube...I believe the rod was incorrectly torqued and/or sized. Kohler specs matter!

From the size of that hole, my guess is the high idle RPM was not set and the rod failed before the flywheel. I bet it was screaming!

That's unusual for stock motors. Seen a couple blocks like that used in pullers.

I agree with Allen. When that malfunction occurred it had to have left a mark somewhere...:bigeyes:
