As if I didn't have enough to do

Saw a CL add for a 124 Cadet for $200. No pics in the ad. Sent a reply to get a couple pics and to see if it ran. Yep, it ran, didn't have a deck but did have a homemade belly mount blade and hydraulic lift. Hmmm, my curiosity was up. Tried to get up with the guy, no response. Finally called me at 3 on Sat afternoon. I was right in the middle of sharpening the blades on my 982. Talked a bit but I wasn't too interested being that late in the day. Guy said he worked out of town and was leaving on Sun. Just before hanging up the phone he said he had other Cadets---I really wish he wouldn't have said that. I couldn't help myself but I asked what else. All I remember hearing was a 782 with a blown out muffler. Next thing I know I'm hooking up a trailer and grabbing some loading boards. Only had to go about 5-6 miles. First thing I did was to check out the 782. Cranks and runs good but the carb has issues. Hydro seems to work OK. Its an IH built machine that the original owner decided would look better painted yellow. On to the 124, runs pretty good (needs carb work), tranny shifts fine although the clutch is out of adjustment or screwed up---lets just say it works but needs help. Anyway, those 2 Cadets were begging me to take them home (paid less than double the price of the 124) Paid the guy and my kid promptly hoped on the 124--he seems to think the blade will be great fun:biggrin2:
I've got a 682 with 2 well ventilated engines, decent seat, replacement mowing deck so I can probably put the 782 back to mowing grass with minimal effort. Need to get a donor muffler quick--that 782 makes more noise than a half dozen Harleys.

Maybe these will go, ,maybe they will stay. Pops was a little enthused about them so that's good enough reason to bring them home and play with them.

Congrats on the tractors John!

The serial number on that 782 says it was made in the second to last month of machines produced by IH. It is very possible that it was repainted yellow and white before it was ever sold.

I don't think so,looks repainted by an unprofessional. Why would CCC repaint it as they sold red ones also.

Nice score Mr. hall.I like how you only went 5 miles to get them.

Seller said it was a PO repaint, said the guy like the yellow scheme better.
This fellow also had a nice 126 with a deck in his building. Had a rather nice repaint and ags. If I would have had more cash on me I may could have talked him in to selling that one as well. This guy had all sorts of old stuff, he was a collector. Based on his prices he buys cheaper than me.

Could have been sold by an outdoor power dealer. Weren't all the red ones sold through IH, and the yellow through the outdoor power dealers?

Not saying it was..... but could have been. I see paint chips on the hood that don't appear to have red under them. :bigthink:

Dealers don't usually have pro paint guys. When I worked for IH sometimes we had to paint tractor hoods or other "cosmetic" parts. You'd be surprised what some people would accept as a "good job".

I think the dealer dad worked for had yellow and red ones at the same time. They lost their tractor and equipment sales contract but retained a parts contract, I think this happened prior to the 82 series but am not sure. I do remember plenty of red 82 series Cadets that they sold.
