Mag 18 valve question.

This is just a general question, I don't currently have an engine with this issue. Since the mag 18 doesn't have adjustable lifters, how do you go about adjusting the valves? I understand that is generally done by a machine shop and they can shorten the stem until it has the proper clearance but what do you do when there's already to much clearance? Install new valves? Just about every mag I've dealt with had noisy valves but ran ok, just looking for the best course of action for future reference.

To add clearance you grind the stem.

To decrease clearance you replace the valves. On a used valve, you could do a complete valve job and that would set them lower and decrease clearance also. But.... after all that work, you may still have too much clearance... it's a judgment call.

or you could put a CH or Vanguard in it. I think that is the best judgement call!:bigthink:
