1772 dies / fuel delivery issues?
 

I have been having some issues with my Kubota powered 1772. I have been prepping 1/2 acre of land to seed into lawn. The other day while pulling a section of rotary hoe, the tractor died...just like you shut it off.

I thought it might be out of fuel, but tank was 1/2 full. It started right off. But, it died another 4 or 5 times in an hour or so. Each time it re-started, pretty much with no problem. However, I felt like it didnt have full power.

Today while mowing, it died another 5 or 6 times. A couple of times when the engine started to falter, I put tractor in neutral / turned off pto and the engine revved back up.

Tonight I cleaned both fuel filters, then decided to see how much fuel the pump was actually pumping. It literally took 10 minutes to pump a quart of fuel. This was pulling thru the filters.

Tomorrow I plan to bypass the filters and original fuel lines and run a temporary hose from pump into the tank and see how much fuel it will pump.

Anyone know how many GPH this should be pumping?

Any other suggestions to look for the problem???

Yes, pull the fuel cock and tank bung out and replace. While you are doing that, replace the supply and return line and you should be good for another 5 years.

I agree. Had the exact same problem on my 882D. Replaced fuel lines and bungs, and soaked the fittings in Super Clean from auto parts store. Good as new.

Make sure you remove the tank and clean it inside also. You'll be surprised at how much crud collects over the years.

Took the fuel tank off, and found the pick up screen was pretty much plugged with crud.

Cleaned the screen, cleaned out the tank, put all new fuel lines on, and new inline fuel filter.

Put everything back together and once again she sings like new!

This past week on my 2182, I replaced all of the fuel lines, tank bushings (bungs), cleaned fuel tank, cleaned fuel shutoff valves, cleaned the whole rear end of tractor and it runs very smooth now. It was running a little rough on occasion but cleaning up the fuel system completely solved the problem! Am glad to hear that it worked for you as well.

Why is this such a common issue that takes so many by surprise and sometimes very hard to convince someone to do???

Thank you to the OP for doing what was suggested without questioning or arguing. So much of the time it takes us about 20 posts to convince someone that a dirty fuel system is the issue.
