Ariens ST824

First thing I want to do in this post is thank all you folks for giving me so much support while I have been rebuilding my Cubs. You long timers can certainly remember how painful my questions where in the beginning and how nervous I was to do ANYTHING on my Cubs. Not saying my questions are not totally great at this point but I'm getting there HAHAHAHA!

So just wanted to let you know what I did here. I found this old Ariens ST824 on the side of the street. At first I was going to leave it there but then I looked it up on "The Google" and found out it's actually a pretty darn good thrower. I took this poor thing home and got it running totally on my own! Replaced the carb and some other stuff. First pull and the bad boy started running WOOT!!! Now I just have to tune up some things and replace the belts because it's been sitting so long and the drive won't engage. The thrower works though!

Anyway, thanks all for giving me the support to start to move onto more things :-)

Also, anyone else have one of these? Can you give me any tips or comments on how it has worked for you? I'm also looking for some accessories for it so if anyone can help with that please let me know.

Thanks again!

I think it's more on the orange side. With this model the friction disc is supposed to move up to engage drive. Mine seems to be stuck so working on freeing that. Pictures to come :-)

Model 924060
Serial 085377

I read in the newspaper about a stolen Ariens snowblower the homeowner left in the street in Northern NJ. The owner claims the machine broke and left the machine to get some tools. When he came back the machine was gone.

Would you believe me? :biggrin2:

Free is good. Especially for snowblowers. They don't get much use and the dried fuel is usually the culprit. People just buy another one rather than toss $150-$200 or more at a mechanic to do a carb job and change the oil.

Haha! Whelp this little gem was right down my street with a "Free just needs carb" sign on it. I think this model is much like our Cubs. Built to work forever if just taken care of.

Arien made great snow blower since day one, I inherit a 1974 Columbia 10hp 26" with a real differential and change it for in for 1984 Columbia 10hp 28" with a standard lock gear differential, I never like that one but in 2007 Arien come out with a "new" real differential , I tell the seller I want one since I use to own a snow blower with the same differential system he don't believe me.

I pay $2200CA for mine in 2007 with all bells and whistles! Already 11 years old and all I change was 2 belts, she still look great and work perfectly ,even the heating handle work like new. :biggrin2:

I have to agree. I'm very impressed with this machine and how well it was built. Mine just has the "fake" differential. You just pull out the wheel lock so the left wheel spins free. Still, it's really helpful to move it around and if I can find the mower for it I'm going to enjoy the ease of turning the machine.

Really want to try this thing out but today's dusting will be handled with a leaf blower :bash2:
