Said goodbye to an old friend today
 

I have been married for 29 years my oldest child is 20 but I owned this car for 39 years. I bought it off the original owner in 1978. She was a little old lady her husband bought her the car new in 1965 for her 65th birthday. I drove the car as my daily driver until 1985 when I went to grad school. I planned several times over the years to restore it, but just never did it, I gave to my son for his 16th birthday and he informed me he always wanted my 99 Roush so last year I gave it to him for graduation. I also bought my self a new mustang. I decided I really did not want to restore it so it was time to go. I put it on CL yesterday morning and said good buy today at 2pm. I had 12 phone calls, 9 text and 17 emails one from the UK. So now the bay it was in will now be a dedicated Cub Cadet area. I also just ordered a 24 X 36 building Which will be for the Mustangs and Father son Man Cave.

Note the factory ralley Pac on the column and the 32 year old Frisbee still in the trunk. Pretty good condition for a 52 year old car.

WOW. 65 Mustang was my second car I got when a teen in 1976. Mine was rough. I'm sure somebody will take good care of your car. You don't come across one like yours everyday.

Nice car, will be a great project for someone. I'm still holding on to my '66 I bought back in '87. It hasn't been on the highway in 4-5 years. I stole the battery out of it to put in a combine several years ago. I stuck a battery in it long enough to crank it up last year. To say mine has had a hard life is an understatement--every panel on it has body filler. I really need to get my son to decide if he wants it. Don't think he is that interested in it, prefers newer and more exotic.

Nice Car!! Someone will be very happy! I have a 65 that my dad bought for me in 1987.. I finally put it through a ground up resto starting in 2000.. took me 5 years to finish it.. Hardly ever drive it now.. always scared someone is gonna ding or scratch it.

65's are great cars, but you can only have so many cars, tractors ect.... I prefer Nav, heated /cooled seats power everything. All with over 700hp. If I kept it it would be limited use. Sorry not sure how to rotate picture.

Nice car. How many miles? My buddys first car was a 65 six cyl 3 speed. I really like those and the square back models (70). But i'm not a Ford guy, i drive the other brand. Mike :biggrin2:

I have a 66 sitting in the garage that I bought when I was 17, 1979.
Always gonna restore it now wondering if I will ever get it done. Rebuilt it all mechanically 20 years ago and never got anywhere on the body or the interior.
Its has sat inside all those years while the cars I drive sit outside in the snow, hmmm. Sorry to see yours go, but at least you still have a Mustang, good thing for that.
Maybe it time for mine to go, it would free up space for the Cub and other tractor stuff.

Mike the 65 had 143000 on it that was 7100 per year for the 20 years it was on the road. Ken I finally made the decision I really did not want to restore it. Although they are great cars they are not worth that much compared to what it cost to restore and was starting with a solid car. If you have a rare modal or fastback big difference. I would rather get a late eighties fox body and play with it. Again the 65 no power anything not good handling or stopping or really anything other than looking good. I say fix it up and drive it or cut it loose. I am excited to have anew 20x14 work area for the Cubs.

Sentimentality clouds the mind a bit over the years, I guy forgets that although it was cool car it probably doesn't even handle as well as my 93 chevy 3/4 ton pickup, Good advice.
