Project 1662

Quite awhile ago I picked up an 1862 roller from Sam. Last summer I picked up a beat-up 2166 dirt cheap, just for the engine and driveshaft. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=46141

Jeff in pa made me some spacers to raise the engine to the correct height. Today I put the engine on the plate and put it in to get the driveshaft length. I cut the shaft and will have it welded up tomorrow.

Sam the B&S short filter will play OK after a couple love taps on the frame. I also researched a smaller hydro filter to keep from shimming the fan forward due to the interference I had when putting a 2000 series shaft in the 782.

I filled the rear up and installed the filter. Spun up the hydro from the rear, bled all the air, checked for leaks and walked it into the shed using the drill. Good day! :beer2:

Interesting swap. I think I would have used a spacer so that you could use the regular filter. You could use the 2000 series part that the blue plastic barrels fit in. I have an extra laying around if you want it. Looking forward to your progress on this one.

Interesting project. Could you use a remote oil filter? Looks pretty tight yet.

Thanks Sam! This tractor will only pull a cart and push a little snow. There's no grass where this one's going. If it were going to be a hard worker in the heat, I would probably use the larger filter. I'll let you know once I get the the shaft in there if I need a spacer.

Terry, I looked into it. 2 love taps with a hammer is a lot cheaper!:biggrin2: There's going to be another dent on the top of the frame on the other side right in front of the bottom starter bolt.:beerchug: It's probably going to be 2 years until that filter will get changed for the first time.

Travis,

Looks like an interesting project!:beerchug: Keep us posted! I like things that are different from the norm!:biggrin2::biggrin2:

Just checked the filter your using, it looks like it should be a good solution. In fact it has a better Micron rating than the 1410, flow rate is the same. The more I look at this swap the more it makes sense, 16HP is plenty of power considering that a 1440 is only a 14HP. I think this will be a winner. :beerchug:

That's my hydro test socket. Made putting it in da shed easy peasy! I would like to use that shaft for something useful one day.:bigthink:
