QA 36/42 snowthrower aftermarket drive pulley?
Hi guys, New to this forum, been lurking around for a long time though. I have a QA snowthrower for my Cub Cadet 129. It's complete, however; it is missing the drive pulley for the gear box. I can pick up a new pulley no problem but I need some more information that I cant seem to find?
What is the correct belt to drive this? Can I use a zinc stamped pulley like from farm supply store? or should I use a Cast Iron Sheave with Taper-Loc insert on the shaft? Worried about one of the stamped pulleys coming apart due to the RPM, look kind of cheap. |
Cast iron taper lock is the way to go.
Try surplus center for a good price. Don't like those stamped sheet metal sheaves either. :beerchug: |
Nice to see someone fixing the winter equipment long before it will be needed rather than "It's snowing and my stuff is broken" well done! :beerchug:

Thanks guys! my local surplus store has both. any idea on what the correct belt size is?

I think mine runs a Napa 4L300, but I'll double check that for you when I get out to the shed today.

Ya might wanna get the pulley first and installed then run a tape measure around the pulleys to be sure,
33" is a close length on most, but vary depending on pulley size and model involved. -----and close only counts on horse shoes and hand grenades.:Poof: Some enterprising fellers go to tsc or hwd store and get several lengths then return the incorrect ones. Do remember to take in account there is quit a bit of belt adjustment on them. |
Just checked, mine's a 4L300W, but bear in mind I'm running it on a 125 narrow frame. Geometry SHOULD be the same, but trying a few and returning the non-fits is a good practice. I'm running a qa-42a, and it came off a 129.
