Changing Oil on a K-161
 

Does anyone know what size the drain hole is on a K161? I want to use a piece of rubber hose to drain the oil so it doesn't get all over my tractors? Originals of course. Or, if you guys have a better way of changing the oil, chime in please.

I just got the oil changed and didn't make a mess. I found a little plastic funnel in my junk. It set just perfect down inside the front wheel. I had never changed the oil in that tractor and it was black as tar. She is clean now. Couldn't tell on the dip stick where the oil was at? So, I hope it holds one quart.:biggrin2:

While you had the plug out, you could have put a nipple :blush: on the block to extend it away from the frame.
How did the oil smell?

Cool! which one do you use? The larger ones are kind of pricey. It looks like it may come in handy draining the oil out of my Supers with the decks still on them.

General purpose one I think. Had it a couple of years, it's green.

The oil smelled burnt. There were also a few little particles of metal or something in it. But they were so small, I couldn't feel them with my finger?

What I do to change oil on my IH Cub Cadets, since they all have their sub frames usually attached. I cut the side out of a typical plastic 1 quart Cub Cadet Low ash engine oil container and rest that right on top of the sub frame under the drain hole. Having the plastic cap removed, the used oil cleanly flows out of the 1 quart container into a larger 5 quart engine oil container which has the same side cut out as the 1 quart, but the cap stays on this one. No mess every time, and works quite well for me!

On a side note, I did use a pipe and 90* elbow with plug on my model 71 ( see thread ) , but feared of knocking the pipe hard and possibly damaging the k161 engine oil pan. Now my off topic Vanguard 14 twin has a nice rubber line and plug for easy engine oil removal. Hope all of this helps or gives some insight to you!

However, I think that might be a bit overkill on a Cub. They are nice and work very well though.
