129 not charging?
I have a 129 made in 74, two days ago I found it had a dead battery. I have not had any battery trouble all winter so it came as a surprise. After charging over night I now have 12.75 across the posts, however when I rev up the motor I get a reading of 1.75 or 2.0.. I have no idea what is going on any help would be very useful to me.
I do have another voltage regulator that is off some long gone garden tractor, could I swap that one on to the 129? Thanks RussL |
Your testing something wrong. If you have 12.75 across the posts of the battery, unless the battery went bad, you will have at least that or more when it's running.
With it running WOT, check the voltage across the battery. It should be above 13V, but not over 14.5V. If it's below 12V, you likely have a charging issue. Check your battery connections. However, if there was an issue there, you should be having starting issues. Don't get excited about replacing parts yet. You don't even know where the issue it. Don't goof up testing the system by swapping parts all around. That just makes it hard to diagnose. |

I could be doing something wrong for sure. I used a HF meter putting the neg. lead on the neg. post and positive on positive. I then ran it about half throttle and got the funky readings. If I am doing something wrong please let me know. I will go back out to the shed and try full throttle. RussL |
I forgot to mention that the amp gauge does not move at any rpms.

Perform this test........ S/G Test
|
I will do the above test as soon as possible. I went out to the shed and checked the battery it read 12.76 so I started the tractor, when at full throttle it reads 1.2 or 2.something, however at an idle it reads 12.76 the same as when not running. This is weird......

Are you sure you are measuring DC Voltage..?? Is the meter any good..?? |

I have no idea why, but all things are back to normal. My grandson rode around the lawn for awhile then parked it. When I started it to put it away the amp meter showed charge, got me, I don't know what happened but it works. Best guess is a loose connection somewhere.
