I'm working on the neighbors new POS and the engine sounds like it's full of gravel went it first start but evens right out. I'm going to be replacing a leaking valve cover gasket and wonder if I should adjust the valves while I'm in there or if I should just not mess with it?

Tim, pretty sure that engine uses hydraulic roller lifters. (Self adjusting.) Would need the application or engine model to confirm, but, I'm pretty sure....

Thanks for the link. My question wasn't really how to do it but should I? These engines seem to be a joke on the internet and I wasn't sure if it would be better to just let the sleeping dog lie. I guess I will go ahead and do it and hope for the best. You guys should hear this thing, for the first 5 seconds or so that it runs it sounds like a twin cylinder with a broken connecting rod just flapping around inside, if I remember I will try to take a video of it.

I wouldn't touch it. It might let go shortly after you work on it and your neighbor will say it's your fault it blew up. Nope. Not me.... I wouldn't touch it.

thats the engine that almost killed another reputable wisconsin born and built small engine manufacturer....or at least hurt kohler pretty bad...nylon cam gear if i remember right....the self grenading engine.....nope....leave her lone

I wouldn't even change the valve cover gasket. My neighbor has one and I already told her Not to bring it to me. :beerchug:

I've messed with my fair share of that disappointment from dropped valves to literally exploding internally. Kohler had a lot of "courage" to label it as such, what a shame.

Kawasaki was/is known for the Plastic Cam gear in the 4XX series JD's among others...

I WOULDNT TURN A WRENCH ON THAT...!
