682 Rescue
 

Lucked out at the auction the other week and picked up this 682 for practically nothing. There were several others of different brands and this one looking as ruff as it did slid under the radar of the other bidders. Only thing missing was a headlight and grill. Loaded it up on the trailer and found the rear end was locked up. Tires held air long enough to a least get it in the garage.

Everything seemed to be rusted up from sitting outside so long but looks to only have 330 hours when they gave up on it. Lift handle and hydro linkage was stuck. Tank was completely full of water from the broken gas cap. Some kind of critter made it home inside and filled everything up inside with its nest. Only chewed the front part of the harness off which is amazing.

Turns out the rear was stuck because of the internal brake puck was rusted in tight. Took off all the shields and pulled the rear end. I ended up having to remove all the internals in the diff to get it out. If you want to avoid that if you have a similar problem just weld a long bolt straight to the puck and pull it out that way which I did after getting it stuck again with the wrong sized o-ring.:bash2:
Rest went pretty well, cleaned the engine of its grease coating, welded up the steering componets, spindle holes and cam follower, got almost all the slop out.

Repaired the damage to the harness and fired her up. Threw on the shields to make sure all is well and run it through the paces. So far only have about 150 invest in parts and most of that was rear end gaskets. Even mowed with her a little bit. The original deck is pretty bad so I used the one off the 782 for now. You did well! If it seems to work well, I'd leave the mower deck on it and leave the 782 to handle the gardening chores!
