Barn rescued 68 cc 125
 

I just got the ok from my family to adopt my great grandfathers 1968 cc 125. It's been broken down and parked in the old barn for 20 years. All four tires are flat, it's got a inch of bird crap over the entire thing, and I was told they left it there because it wouldn't shift into neutral - so they couldn't start it.

I went yesterday and hauled it out with a comealong and managed to get it on a trailer. I've got it home now, so it's time to start fixing it up. I've wanted this mower for 10 years, so I'm pretty stoked!

I hooked it up to a battery yesterday and it actually turned over for me. I tested the plug, and to my amazement, it actually still had a spark. I dumped some gas in the cylendar, and it fired up!

I can't get any gas through the gas line, so I guess that's where I start work first.

Anybody have any tips for a tractor sitting this long?

Congrats on your adoption! I think that once you wash the bird poo off it's going to look great.

Congrats on getting your fist cub, and I bet it feels great to keep it in the family!

I've seen Cubs in a lot worse shape resurrected...follow Methos advice and you'll have her running great in no time!

That's cool!!
After a good washing, you'll need to soak every joint, nut and bolt with some PB Blaster,... grease every fitting,... change ALL of the fluids and put a new plug and points in it. I'm sure the gas tank will need removed a clean out, and the carb will need rebuilt, and then you can fire it up and run some MMO in it. That should be a good start and enough to keep you busy for a few days. :biggrin2.gif:

Make sure the transmission pump and transaxle and stuff are all clean, they run a lot cooler when they're clean.

I would also pull the engine out wash it and take the shroud off to clean the nests out of it and clean the fins on the block and head (if the fan on the flywheel can't cool the engine, it won't live very long, and there are almost always nests inside the shroud!). While you have the shroud off, find the timing mark on the flywheel, clean it off and paint it white.

Nice 125! My gramps didn't have a cub but he gave me a Sears SS 16/6 and a little montgomery wards. So I know how it is keeping some old machine in the family. I am hopefully getting a 125 soon that I found. I gotta get money first. I also noticed you live in Maine! Same here! You should bring her down to the Eliot Tractor Show.
