Cub cadet 129 pto will not disengage

Good machine, starts and runs beautifully. Did not use mower deck for a few years, used tractor to tow etc. Put deck back on but not matter how we adjust the PTO engage lever, the pto and consequently the mower blades will not disengage.

Any easy solutions. I did mow for an hour but still will not respond the way I ask it to thinking that the ?clutch plates would separate if there was corrosion etc. How to approach the problem?

Thank You

Did you have the PTO lever back when mowing? If not, they had pressure from being engaged. With the lever pulled back, you could hope the resistance of the mower would break the clutch plate free in the PTO.

CC 129 pto problem

I did the mowing with the lever in the forward and also in the pulled back position but the mower would not disengage.

He's talking about the PTO bearing.

I'm thinking that this is probably due from not using it for a time. The proper way to fix would be remove and rebuild it, surface the plate and hub and a new disk. However, you might get away with moving the lever out of the way and tapping with a hammer several times right in the middle of the PTO itself on the button. This is how most move the set screw holes into position with the basket knotches to line them up. Try turning the hub as you tap with the hammer and you might end up working it free.
