What can I look for ?
The Kohler Command ch20s currently in my 2084 with nearly 1600 hrs is getting tired. I recently replaced both head gaskets after cleaning the heads and top of pistons and surrounding areas and truing the heads. It is working but the right side piston is still carboning up.
Now to my question. Are there other newer command engines that are just a bolt in replacement. I know a ch18 to 22 will fit but do not know if any of the newer engines will also fit without major mods. Any suggestions are appreciated. |

Don't rule out a short block till you look into pricing. Hope this helps. |
Thanks Steve. If I buy a donor machine for the engine I will likely at least try to save it like you did.

Here you go. Ain't cheap, but it was pretty much a bolt in. And didn't have to worry if there were any issues with a used one...

I've had fantastic luck with those Vanguard engines in other off topic lawn tractors!

look for a 2042, 2185, they are cheap, and mostly low hour machines with 18 hp and 20 hp commands in them. |
Thank you Lew I don't have either on my list.
