1450 Trunnion Repair Braze Method
 

After I fixed my melted charging wires, swapped out my bad ignition switch, and replaced the voltage regulator. It was time to work on my trunnion. I looked to find a new trunnion arm..$250-$300. I read some posts on the keystock braze method. I have never brazed anything so I bought a small brazing setup for ~50 bucks at Menards, flux coated brazing rods, keystock, and a 5/8 washer as a shim which I ground down to ~.020 on my grinder because I'm too cheap to go to fastenal and get a precision shim for too much money..+ the time it takes.
My brazing skills need work but it is stuck on good and my hydro doesn't care if its not perfect. I wrapped a wet rag around the arm, painted it with flux, got it cherry red with the torch, added the flux covered brazing rod and "flowed" the puddle with my mini torch to the best of my ability.

Thanks for the guidance..no more jerky operation.

PS next I need to fix the plastic fan and inspect the rubber/rag coupling. It looks slightly frayed. Maybe that needs to be replaced. Is that a big job? and what about the hydro cooling fan?

Hope your seal doesn't leak. Welding doesn't require as much heat. That's why we recommend it.

Yes, you need a new driveshaft fan. Yeah, the rag joint look a little tired.
