782D stopped hydro-ing...
Long time no see, friends!
I was doing the last clean up of leaves (maybe) this year and was bringing my 782D back towards the garage. I was motoring forward and lifting the deck at the same time and hydro pressure just died. There's no propulsion or any lift of the deck. Engine runs fine, and there's no leaks. Where to look first? John |
Check the spiral pins on the drive shaft.

I agree..
Better lay on some spares while you are at it, you are gonna need 'em |

Dowel pin on engine end. Spirol pin on pump end. Check pin holes for elongation in all parts the pins touch. Eliminate elongations. Jeff in PA makes a dowel pin that is slightly bigger to fit into shaft at engine end when pins are being slung out. |

John, you sheared the pin off at the hydro input shaft.

Sounds right but wasn't right. All pins are working, input to hydro pump is spinning. I will double check this though.
I did discover that the DPO neglected to tell me that all the fins on the cooling fan were broken off. Any next hints? I can see that the linkage from F/R lever is working fine. BTW, this stopped all of a sudden...there was no loss or degradation before the failure. John Sounds right! I'll have to go see how to tunnel cover removes and give a look see. Doesn't sound too bad. I guess the load of pumping the PTO lift and the motor at the same time exceeded the (probably OEM) shear pin. Back in a bit! |
To no ones surprise it does indeed look like the spirol pin! I drove it out and it came in small pieces.
Thank God for Kroil and long roll pin punches! |
Was it a spirol pin or a plain roll pin?
