Cub Cadet 1782 Hydro Rebuild Kit.
 

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and just recently purchased a 1782. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are rebuild kits for the hydros. Mine currently has no issues but kinda just doing research to prepare for if it ever goes out on me. Could you provide a little insight on what the rebuild would consist of. I really appreciate any help or information anyone is willing to give on this. Thanks, Eric.

No there are no kits. They do not fail..... ever. Unless you never ever service them, or you tow it too fast with the tractor not running. You will never need to rebuild it. If it does fail, buy a used one for $100. The parts to rebuild the hydro alone would cost more than a new one. Don't worry about. Don't prepare for it.

Now... that said. They occasionally leak on the input shaft, trunion shaft and cork gasket between the hydro and the trans. Now an again on the diesels, you wear out the pump coupler that adapts to the drive shaft. If you want to do something, check that out. Typically, it wears the splines out of the coupler and not off the pump shaft. DO NOT change seals if they aren't leaking. Leave them alone until they do. Replacing not leaking seals is a sure fire way to have a leak you didn't have. If you split a big farm tractor to put a clutch in it and change the rear main engine seal because you're there, and you already paid the shop for 4 hours time to split the tractor, that is considered preventative maintenance. Taking something apart to fix something that isn't broke is called wasting money. :beerchug:

That said, checking the driveline out and replacing worn parts is good, especially on that diesel. Pulling the whole rear end out and taking the axles off and drilling drain holes in the housing*, fixing any leaks, changing the rear fluid and filter.... that would be good preventative maintenance.

I read something that has turned out to be right in my experience. The parts of a Cub (particularly older ones) which you'd think would be problems, never fail. It's the other parts that wear out.:beerchug:
