New to me 1782
Hi Guys
My FIL just recently gave me his old 1782. It’s a little rough but runs pretty good. The fuel solenoid shutoff is now manual, the exhaust manifold is missing 2 bolts with no gasket, the seat is beat and it starts hard in the cold (glow plugs?). I’ve ordered a new seat, solenoid, manifold and gaskets/hardware, dash label, grille and a block heater. There is also a little leak somewhere in the rear end. Should be pretty nice all fixed up. Has anyone installed a block heater on one of these? Just looking for tips. I’ll get some pics of the rear end when I get it cleaned up. Here it is covered in road crud. If that has the same Kubota as the 782D/882 I can recommend doing the glow plug upgrade with 12v relay bypass if applicable. Of all the things I've done to my 882 to help with cold starts, this one had the most impact. |

My model has the D640 engine. Can I just replace the glow plugs on this or does it need the relay and solenoid upgrade? Seen some posts about that. The starter seems good, although I’ve read the new one crank it over better, but might need to do some fabrication on the bottom plate.
Going to have a local shop sandblast the mower deck and snowblower (which has net been used), then prime and paint it myself. Going to get a new HVLP gun this week. I’ll post some pics. Scott |

Nice smoker! I think they changed the gp's on the 1782 to take the full 12 vdc by looking at the schematic.
The 1772 and prior built had the resistor in series with the gp's dropping the voltage to the plugs. It still wouldn't be a bad idea to use a solenoid to keep all that current out of the key switch. Just use the orange wire that attaches to your gp's now to energize the solenoid. Don't buy any Kubota parts from Cub Cadet. I get all my Kubota parts from Messicks. http://www.messicks.com/ Get the part number from PartsTree and then take the "KB" off of it and use that number on the Messicks search.
