Rebuild kit for fuel pump?

1 Attachment(s)
My 1863 takes forever to crank after it's set a few days. I'm thinking the 20+ year old fuel pump is getting tired but can't find a rebuild kit number for it. Partstree shows the new pump number as KH-24-393-16 ($62.81) Stens has a replacement for $12.99 on amazon. I would rather rebuild the OE metal one but if kits are not available I guess I'll put a new plastic one on it. Fuel flow from the tank to the pump seems to be OK.

I went to the Kohler Website and looked up the CH18-62509 Engine and there is NO fuel pump repair kit.

Remove the gas cap, blow in the tank for 6 seconds, pressuring as much as comfortable.
Replace the cap and see how it starts.:beerchug:

I put the 1963 in the garage a while ago. I cranked it about 20 seconds then got a short piece of fuel line, cupped my hand around it and blew into the tank. I cranked again and it started in a few seconds. So I'm thinking that some pressure in the tank helped. Now, does that mean the pump is weak or not?

Service the fuel system as mention on this board numerous times and replace the pump. It's all at least 25 years old. Do it and be good for another 25.

Bummer, price is now $7.21. :D

Thanks for that info and thanks for Cannon51 for posting the original question.

Buying tune up parts for my 1864 now and for that price having a spare fuel pump on hand is a no brainer. As long as I can remember where I store it.

I believe the Stens part number is Stens 520-590 ?

I see metal ones are available on ebay for $9.95 + $4.49 shipping.

Did this solve your problem

I put one of the cheap fuel pumps on it that Sam referenced. It is better but if it hasn't been cranked in a few weeks the Kohler still takes longer to crank than the Briggs in my 1641. I did change the fuel lines, grommets and clean the petcocks after I got the mower but that was in 2012.
