1450 running issues
 

Hello everyone, I'm new to Cubs in general.
I have a 1450 with the original engine, it will stall when throttle is anything above idle. I just put a new carb on it and has done the same thing. The points were recently replaced (before me). I have read some things about exhaust valve seats etc. Is that a common thing?
All input is welcome.
I tried to search for answers but couldn't find, but again, I'm new.

First, welcome to OCC......:Welcome2:

Your symptom could be caused by a number of things. Lets start with fuel delivery. At the gas tank, there is a screen on top of the shut off valve. Is that clean? Then work your way along the fuel line and make sure it is clean and unobstructed all the way to the Carb fitting. Lastly on the fuel side, inspect & make sure the gas tank has a good vent (gas cap).

Check that out and let us know.

First, when you changed your carb, did you check for fuel flow from the tank? The original shutoff/connector has a fine built in filter than can occlude very easily. Your tractor is 40+ years old and the tank may be full of foreign matter that can plug filters. Secondly, rule out simple things such as fuel flow, dirty filter, restricted fuel line. If all of those check out then progress to more involved items. We are here to help but we need more info first. :beerchug::beerchug:

I didn't know about the screen, I will check that. When I was still with the old carb, it looked like there was plenty of fuel in the old filter (clear).
The gas tank looks to have a "rubber grommet-ish" kinda thing holding the petcock in, is this correct?

The "petcock" is as you described. Engine cool, remove the fuel line from carb and see if fuel flows easily (into a gasoline safe container) and not just a dribble.

Full flow is there.

Read through the carburetor repair and static spark timing. If these are ok move on to more involved items. The manual is a wealth of info! :beerchug:

Change the condenser, they are inexpensive and can cause the condition you describe.
