Where is all the oil coming from
10 Attachment(s)
I have a 2072 runs and cuts great but has a pretty good oil leak. i can't figure where it is. I pressure washed everything and did not see anything up front I thought front seal. After washing I noticed oil on shrouds and top of motor under the carb. Ill post some pics. When I pulled back shroud over the heads I found a mess. Where do I need to look? One night this week I will try and get my son to pressure wash the back. I need to disconnect the oil lines to get the shroud off. Hard for me right now but I am determined.

I would bet it's coming from the crank seal. It's an easy job once the engine is removed.

Looks about like my 1912 I haven't pulled the engine out of yet. Everything is definitely well lubed. :biggrin2:

Tim not sure I'm up to that right now. If you were closer I'd drop it off and let you pick it out. I might just have to get a case of oil and wait till winter.

Do yourself a favor and don't run it slobbering oil over everything and clogging the fins with debris, causing overheating.
Or worse, it blows the seal out, while mowing and it throws a rod through the block, because it is out of oil. Your call. Luck what ever path you choose.:bigthink: |
You're going to have to fix it (or have it fixed) before you continue using it. My 1861 lost that seal last summer, and nearly ran the engine dry in about 2 minutes. It was a heck of a mess.
If you have a cherry picker, might be something your son can handle (with your guidance). It isn't a bad job. |
