Ok, well like I said, it was made by Ariens for Cub Cadet. Not many parts available from CCC now, but can still get almost all most common parts from Ariens. Ariens built snowblowers for a lot of different manufacturers over the years, but there were subtle differences between the different brands so they weren't just a repainted version of the same machine. For example, the Cub Cadet blower differed from the Ariens branded one in a few controls and also the way the handles were attached to the base. The IH blower handles weren't made as well (my opinion) and they tended to break with hard use.
There were different versions of the 268 blower depending on year made. They all used a Briggs and Stratton engine, but had different options available, such as electric start. The blower was 26" wide, and the engine was 8hp, thus the model of "268". The 26" blower was specific to Cub Cadet. The Ariens version was a either a 24" or a 28". (I can't remember.)
The tractor drive system is a friction drive, with several speeds including reverse. The blower is belt drive and can be disconnected from the engine while running. So, the blower doesn't have to run all the time.
They are built well, work well, and like I said can be repaired fairly easily if you buy parts from Ariens. My brother (sirlancelot) and I got a pair of them off Tim (olds). I took mine apart for repairs, and just haven't finished it up. When we had them side by side, they were different years, and weren't the exact same. I have a thread on the repair of mine on here..... but I got side tracked on other projects and just haven't got back to it.
