Deflector chute?

I have a 1641 with a 317GT deck. Like most old decks, the plastic deflector chute is hanging on by a thread. Is there any major drawback to taking it off before it removes itself? Or should I replace it? On a positive note, it would fit on my 60" wide trailer without having to flip it up.

The deflector chute is still available from Cub Cadet ..... 931-3131A

I have not had the plastic deflector on the 48" or 54" deck for over 20 years. But, I live in the country and if something flies out of the deck, there is nothing to damage for hundreds of feet. I do not discharge towards the house or cars.
And no children or animals. Sometimes passing close to a tree, stuff will bounce back at me. I do wear safety glasses when I mow.

Im in the same situation, no neighbors to worry about. For $60 I think Ill just remove it.

Roland, I copied the part number you provided, hit the new parts tab at the top of the page, and pasted it in the search. Very handy!
