782 with M18 problem
So i put this rebuilt M18 in my 782 and i can't get it to stop hunting. It appears lean and i can't get it to smooth out. i have replaced the carb, fuel pump, fuel line and gaskets. I also took out the fuel tank, valve screen, and cleaned them. It has good flow to the pump
Still no difference, actually worse. idles with the low speed shut and high speed just hunts with the high speed mixture screw out to stop.... Doesn't miss just lean. Pulled plugs and they are dry and clean so they are firing. What am i missing ? |

No i adjusted the governor because i thought that was the problem.but didn't move anything.. It didn't change anything...

You say you replaced the carb.. Normally I would assume that means new carb but you didn't say new. Is it new?

Yep Chinese special off ebay....

That is an odd issue indeed. Should not run with idle screw shut. And nothing changes as you open it?

Has the governor been adjusted according to the procedure listed in the Kohler manual? If so and it still hunts, it's a mixture issue. If you haven't followed the service manual to adjust the gov, do that first. The only way it could hunt from mixture is if the high speed were nearly closed and extremely lean. Also, have you got a constant flow of clean fuel to the carb?

Another thought, some of us using the chinese carbs have found the float to require adjustment for proper operation. You may need to check that as well.

I adjusted the gov by the book. Its definitely a mixture issue, fresh fuel to pump not sure from pump to carb. i think i will adjust old kohler carb float and try it again.
