Stuck in gear
Ok before I tear this thing apart and go looking around I figured I would ask if anyone knows what this sounds like first. Frankly I'd rather take it to someone to fix but everyone with 100 miles of me told me they wouldn't look at it because it's too old. So my cub cadet 108 seems to be running fine, then the other day the gear shifter got stuck in a gear but the whole shifter would just slop around. After playing with it for a while it seemed to just go back to normal. Today I went to shift from reverse to 1st abd it stayed in reverse but the shifter popped out and is just sloppy loose. So again I messed with it a bg it before finally it got to a point near the 3rd gear slot where it just jammed up and when you let off the clutch it just dies after sounding bogged down. Any ideas of what to look for while I start tearing this damn thing apart?

It's not like it's a big huge deal.
Take the fenders off, then pull the top off the trans. You jammed it into two gears. It happens. Sounds like your shift lever broke the base out. Also happens. It can be welded, or replaced. When you get the top off, flip it over and look up. You'll see what broke. If you have no idea how to fix it, box it up and ship it to me and I will. Done it for other members. I can't believe you don't have a CC dealer, or IH dealer that would look at it. If CC refused, you can bet they would have thrown me out from the ass chewing I'd have given. |
My 126 did similar thing month or so ago. Pulled covers and pulled shifter. There were 2 loose bolts right on top that needed to be tightened back up. Luckily nothing was broken. Hope you have the same luck when you open it.

Thanks guys, I'll post an update when I get a chance to tear it apart in case it helps anyone else. Good news is all the bolts are brand new so it'll come apart easy......

You messed up your avitar pic..... it's of a John Deere.. :bash2:

Ok looks like I broke the "first and reverse shifter fork service". At least that's what parts trees schematic labels it as. Site wont let me upload a picture for some reason. Now how the hell do I get it out of there to replace it?

Consult the service manual.

You will get it out. Good news is it looks like there are sources to get another one!:beerchug:
