149 lights decal
 

Been a while since I have worked on my 149. Time to put the decals on but have a couple questions. I am attaching pictures of the head light decal. It is sticky between the white backing and the decal. Can you use a small amount of soapy water an metal light plate while putting on decal? On the front there is a layer that will come off. Do you squeegee the decal with this on or take it off first. I know these questions may seem dumb to some, but I do not want to mess up with the 1st decal. All help will be appreciated. On decals like this I never use any soap. Yes. Leave contact paper on outside to squeegee out and air bubbles. On something that size I try to work from the center out. if you get a large air bubble sometimes a very small pin hole helps. Main thing is to take your time with it

I would recommend rapid tac over soapy water, it's designed specifically for putting on decals and you don't have to worry about accidentally using to much soap. I put plenty of decals on dry but I don't recommend it to a beginner. I recommend sanding any nibs of dirt before you apply the decal, these chrome backed decals won't lay flat over dirt and it will be very noticeable.

I position the decal EXACTLY where you want it to end up.
Then tape one end/side to the part you are putting it on.
Then flip it up, being careful NOT to move I from it's intended spot, peel the backing off and carefully lay it into position working from the center outward.
I always wet the backing paper 1st, then the part, then put it in position and squeeze out the bubbles.
Then I soak the front paper and carefully remove it.
Some folks let the entire decal dry before removing the front paper.
