Hello from Pittsburgh
 

Below are my two cubs. A 1000 and a newly acquired 1650.
Both are well worn workhorses and both are in need of a little TLC to get them rebooted for another 20 years of work!

I'll have a lot of questions for you guys in the coming months.

To do list:
- 1650 exhaust is too LOUD
- 1650 slows to crawl up hills
- 1650 ign switch replacement
- 1650 engine rebuild / smokes / backfires on startup
- 1650 tail lights
- 1650 tires
- 1000 steering sloppy
- 1000 mower deck rear wheel mount weld broke
- 1000 carb adjustment / general tune-up

I left off replacing the shot motor mounts from my 1650 to do list.

Why waste the time replacing the motor mounts, if you think the engine needs rebuilt?

How much oil is it burning?
The backfire likely is not indicative of it needing rebuilt. More than likely it needs carb and ignition work.
