Super excited to join both the cyclops club and the super club today. Snagged this non-running 2084. I’m pretty excited to get it going and terrified of cracking the plastic. I don’t think it’ll take much to get it running, but not sure what I’ve got once I do. 1400 hours or so on it, and PO thought that the engine was getting “weak” and it was hard to start.

Get lucky and it’s just the ignition modules/carb needs cleaned/bad battery. Worst case is a rebuild and that’s not too bad on these CHs.

54GT Deck sat with grass on it for a few years, and it’s fairly rusty. Haven’t had a chance to dig into it yet though.

Congratulations! Welcome to the "Supers". Seen that on Craig's list hidden behind the John Deere for sale. He also did not spell Cub Cadet properly in his listing. Be sure and check the differential front mounts for cracks before you get too far in getting it running!

NICE!

I used to have a 2082. :crap:

Is the 3165 considered a SUPER?

Soap and water for starters. Doesn't look too bad, but that's what I said about the last 2 yellow money pits I drug in the shop.

Bought it planning on a full engine rebuild. It needs some help. Has sat for a while (oil filter was last changed in 2011, and it has less than 20 hours on it since that was done...). PO says it was hard to start and was "weak" when it was running. That's why it got sat. It's got 1400 or so hours on it. Not a ton, but certainly enough that it could need a rebuild.

Thought I'd pull everything out and clean it up and see what it's got. Compression test shows something like 35 PSI in both cylinders (they are consistent at least). Does this thing have ACR on it?

Squirting a little gas in the carb and turning it over it doesn't fire, but it does backfire a bit. It has spark at both plugs. Plugs were pretty nasty looking (black). Guessing it's burning some oil. New plugs and it might have fired off. Probably needs the carb cleaned out at any rate. Need to do a leak down and figure out what's no bueno.

Deck is pretty rusty. Haven't had a chance to look close at that yet.

It's in pretty dang good shape for what I paid for it, even if I do end up needing to rebuild the engine. These things are beasts. Sitting next to one of my 82 series tractors, it seems gigantic.

Congrats on the new addition. Give it a good bath so you can see the condition of components clearly. As mentioned check the diff mounts to make sure there is no damage then concentrate on finding the reason for the low compression. When that is determined make your plan of action. Since you bought it right, you have room to do repairs.

I'm super jealous. I emailed him around 6 this morning but you apparently beat me to it. That was a steal of a price.
