1541 PTO Disengage stuck
7 Attachment(s)
I have a 1541 tractor. It sat for about a year and a half without starting. I first tried starting it by turning off the "Hydro Relief Valve" and when I pulled it, it had no tension. I removed the head of the lever and took the panel off to expose the system. Put the head back on and the panel and it had tension again. Put it in the disengaged mode and it said it still needed to be disengaged. I thought since the battery was old and corroded. Bought a new battery and put it in and it was still the same. I am dumb founded by this, and any help would be very appreciated. I also put in some pictures of the dashboard, underside of the tractor where the Relief system is, and the panel I took off. Thank you :)

First, Welcome. Second start over. You post was a tad confusing. Will engine crank? Is it cranking but pto is also turning?
|
PTO has nothing to do with the Hydro release. If your getting a disengage PTO light and it won't crank you have a problem with the PTO safety interlocks. Just looking at the pic of the PTO switch my guess is you have some corrosion.

Are trying to say you can't get the engine to turn over when trying to start or the engine is turning over but not starting?
In order to start, basically you need to be seated with the brake pedal depressed and the PTO off! What is your battery voltage? Edit: Sam and Coops got here just before me..... |
Thank you all for the fast responses :)
Cooper: Engine is not cranking at all, just the light is coming on when I try and crank it. Also thank you for the welcoming :) Billy-O: I cannot get it to crank over at all. When I try and start it I am on the feet, pedal depressed and the switch is set to OFF. The battery is 12 volts. That is the size battery it came with when I bought it, so I bought a matching voltage and CA. Sam: I will get the switch changed, could you possibly link me to some safety interlocks? I am not very familiar with Cub Cadets. Thank you all again! |
I agree with Sam. Iterlock not being met or corrosion at the switch
|
Sit on the seat and turn the ignition switch to start while turning the pto switch on and off till either it turns over or not.
Do the lights go on when you turn the key to the second position? If not check for corrosion at the terminals on the ignition switch, especially the green wire where it grounds to the starter solenoid. Here is a wiring diagram to help you out. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9j...ew?usp=sharing |

If you got a test light or, more preferably, a meter you can test the components before just buying new parts that may be suspect. Like the others, I'm leaning towards looking at that rusty PTO switch, too.
Looks as if you can bypass that PTO switch temporarily if you have neither test light or meter for diagnosis purpose only. |
I will try that before I replace the part.
