Confused ...... a Hydro 1872 question
Model 1872
I just drained ( 3/8 square plug and removed rear cover) the hydro assy. wiped clean the inside of the rear axle housing , installed new gasket and bolted cover back on , re-installed drain plug. Refilled 7 quarts of Hy-Tran into the fill / dipstick tube. Started tractor allowed for a min of warm up , ( rear wheels off ground) slowly moved hydrostat lever forward , straining sound in pump , moved lever back to "neutral" , straining sound stopped , moved slowly to reverse , straining sound again. Shut tractor down , no leaks , oil is a proper level on dipstick. What am I missing ? ? Tractor ran great and drove good prior to drain and fill. Thanks for the assistance ! |
Did you change the Hydro Filter...???
:bigthink: |
Sounds like it is air locked. Try rotating the rear tires after you put the directional control lever in forward.

Yes I did change the filter. I don’t remember the number right now , but’s it’s a Baldwin filter , we are a Baldwin , Donaldson , and Racor distributor. So I have plenty of confidence in the proper filter cross.

This is the list of filters that work.
Cub Cadet 923-3014 NAPA 1410 Wix 51410 Fleetgard HF6096 Baldwin BT8486 |
Yea the Cub # crossed to the Baldwin BT 8486 that’s what I installed.

Was there any issue before doing this? Or was this purely maintenance?
|
The tractor was running and driving just fine. I was merely doing some long over due maintenance as the hyd oil was looking poorly , just dirty , no water inclusion.
I drained the bottom plug , removed rear diff cover , drained. Changed filter , refilled with Hy Tran. Then upon restart ..... no love |
Did you prefill the filter , (airlock maybe)
