18 Magnum PTO

Hello to everyone and hope all is Well!

I have a 2072 that I got as a Basket Case several years ago, re did it in Red 982 fashion, just like the Red Tractors! Installed a 18 Magnum I had and put on Cub Cadet PTO. PTO died Saturday and i would like to install Extreme Outdoor PTO. This engine has a 1 inch crankshaft end for PTO and had Jeff in Pa make me sleeves to adapt the 1 1/4 crank PTO to fit 1 inch crank. Has anyone ever made a PTO swap to an engine with 1 inch crank using the Extreme PTO unit? Thanks! Bill

My M18 had a 1 1/8th Crank.... If you go swapping PTO's make sure you have the correct direction or it will grenade...

Cant say for sure. It was in with a bunch of parts and engines I bought at a flea market. Person I got the stuff from didnt know what is was out of but the price was right on everything. Been running if for a few years with no issues till this PTO died.

Is the tag with the spec number still on it? Should be around where the fuel pump is mounted.

If the PTO died, then replace it with a like one, that you have. There should be a Vendor (ie: Warner) and a Vendor Part Number. Cross reference to an Xtreme PTO.

Also, get the Kohler "Spec" number from the Model/Serial tag. That will help identify it also.

Also make sure that you MEASURE the Crank, as those cooling tins get swapped along with the engine "spec" numbers/letters after all these years.
Assume nothing! :beerchug:

Could not get any info off the spec label other than 18 HP. I spoke with Extreme and gave them the info from the PTO I took off, it's a Warner 5209-101-055. He could not find a cross to one of their clutches but pointed me to Cub Cadet Specialties and located a new magnet plate that matches the Warner I have. I may have to o that route.

Thanks Roland! It has not been a good two weeks in my family for pto's! My brother's 125 blew apart last week with a desinigrated bearing and now mine this week! Oh well! At least I know when I'm done its good for a while! Thanks again to all that helped me out! Bill
