129 hydro linkage
 

On this 129 that I have been working on, I mowed about 1/2 my yard and then changed oil (because it just looked nasty, I swore I did so when I initially got it running after years of slumber but maybe I had it confused with another machine I am working on... ) and oil got all over the stiffener plate on the deck hanger and the front roller.... well good thing I pulled the plug in gravel.
anyways after I went back to mownig all of a sudden, just the vibration of it running would cause the hydro lever to fast forward... if I didn't hold the lever the whole time it is moving/ then I hit a bump and it (the lever) jumps to full tilt ahead.... yikes.
The "adjustment" at the bottom of the rotating hydro shaft is definitely "used up", the ears are bent towards each other.... I have heard of a bushing in the bottom carrier, I'm sure that's gone, or at least terribly worn out....
any hope of a hardware store-sourced bushing that would go in there, instead of waiting for the "real thing" from CC???
I remember seeing "something" about this same issue in my travels among this sire in the past but cant currently find it, I remember a before/after with this linkage mentioned... I don't have the serial of my machine in front of me, but I remember it was made in June of 1972..... if this helps determine before/after.

If you take the arm off that holds the plastic bushing in you can remove the pinch bolt and slowly take a dremel or die grinder and widen the gap so the pinch bolt can squeeze down more, stick what’s left of the bushing in there and adjust to your liking

I tried various sized nylon bushings from mcmaster carr, found none that worked as the original bushing is a very thin wall and all others were too thick !Best one I've found is the cc one ! :beerchug:

Nobody that close to me deals or wants anything to do with the older Cubs. So that means ordering it somewhere via computer. It's one of those things that I'm thinking will cost more to ship than the price of the part itself so I was hoping to find something in the bins at Menards or Lowe's maybe. I'm there all the time anyway.

I have this same issue. Is this under the console or under the lever above the console? I haven't dug into it yet as I can usually control it over 90% of the yard, it's just the bumps on the downhills that are scary. Pics would be great if anyone has them.

It's at the bottom of the shaft that the control lever fastens to.
Mine got much worse after I changed oil, I think it must have splashed up in there, as the drained oil ran off the front roller and the stiffener plate on the deck hanger and lubed things up a bit.

I hear what your saying but good luck with finding something that will work ! It kinda looks like the same type of nylon bushing that is used on the pivot pin on a late 60's chevy clutch pedal !, very thin wall material ! Fortunately I have a cub dealer about 12 miles away, if they don't have it in stock I can order it on their web site and stop and pick it up ! Looks like these are around 10-11 bucks now,probably cost .10 cents to make !:beerchug:

I used a piece of wet\dry sand paper with the sanding side out and has been in for years. Works great to hold hydro handle on place.

may have to trim for proper dia ,but likely would work !and you get 4 to experiment with !
