129 Cub 42" 3 blade deck

My 129 has the 42" 3 blade deck on it and it's in pretty good condition, no holes or damage, etc... I sharpened the blades put all new belts on PTO and mule. I also made sure the bearings were free and filled them with the Lucas Green Ag grease. When I mow it just seems to spit all the grease out and the deck sounds very loud. Are the spindle bearings bad? If so, how do I find out what the bearing size is without tearing it apart. I've checked the parts lookup but they only show the spindle as a whole assembly. Any help is much appreciated.

That deck would use what they call a water pump bearing. It is non repairable. St745 is the part number.

This is a triangle deck, right? I didn't think they took the same bearings as the 44/50 decks, 745 is right for those

I would agree. Maybe someone changed the OEM spindles to something newer.

My bad. Cub Cadet parts lookup says that deck from 1971 to 1974 takes an St721, not an ST 745. The ST721 is no longer made and you must convert to the new style spindles.

Is there some sort of write-up on how to do this conversion? Part numbers, etc...

I have yet to see a triangle deck with st bearings on it. I am sure you can go with the newer aluminum housing type on that deck, or go back to the cast iron ones as you can rebuild them...

So is the look up wrong? Newer triangle decks never had water pump bearings?

darkminion_17 07-12-2019 08:22 PM

They did I just never seen one from all the ones I have had.
