Cub Cadet 129 - No Spark

Hello all, I am new to this site. I have been looking all over for some help with an issue I have with my Cub Cadet 129. I just picked it up last week. The previous owner let it sit outside the last 3 years. I'm trying to get it running but I can't seem to get it to fire. First off, there is no spark. It turns over easily but just won't fire up. When doing a little searching, I found that two of the wires on the voltage regulator are not connected. I looked up a wiring diagram, but the wires on the tractor have to difference in color. Can someone help me to figure out where to plug those in correctly? And would that be my issue with no spark? If not any suggestions? Thanks.

First, welcome to OCC..... :Welcome2:

The number #1 condition for a no spark on a Kohler single is ..... the points.

Clean them up with some fine sandpaper or a "point file" and re-gap them.

I have done that, and gaped them to twenty thousandths. Still nothing.

I had the same trouble with my 127 about a month ago. It sat for around 5 yrs. The points were more than likely the problem but the coil was suspect as well and the black wire from the Ign switch to the coil, it was deteriorated. I put a new wire on and new coil, points, plug & condenser and it fired up on the first revolution.
Start with the points first. Hopefully that will be your problem. The problem with the wires having no color is they fade after time. Good luck!

Plan B: Do you have 12VDC at the Ignition Coil. Measured from Ground to the (+) of the Ignition Coil with the Key in the "on" position..??

I had an ariens that had sat for who knows how long before I got it, k 341 engine/ so the ignition is pretty much the same. I wound up having to replace everything in the ignition system due to corrosion. Points, condenser, coil, ignition switch, and even some of the wiring. This thing was NASTY when I got it.
