1811 only runs with choke on
I hope someone can point me in the right direction with this problem......
I was mowing the other day and the mower started cutting out, surging and acting like it wanted to die, then it died. After a few minutes it would restart. Then it died and wouldn't restart. I finally got it started and it ran fine. I finished mowing with no more problems. The next time I went to use the tractor it was running rough for a bit then it straightened out and was fine. This week I started mowing and it was running like a champ, until halfway across the first pass on the yard. It backfired then died. I waited a few seconds and it would start and run for about 10 seconds then die. Then I could wait 15 to 20 seconds and it would start run 10 sec, then die again, over and over. I started to replace the fuel filter and when I took the gas line loose it was running freely, so I hooked it back up. The tractor started and I was able to somewhat keep it running with the choke pulled out about 3/4 of the way. I tried to mow a bit and it would periodically try to cut out and die but would pick up and keep running. I'm thinking fuel pump......am I on the right track or is it something else? I'm a competant shade tree mechanic, but I'm stumped by this one.......:bigthink: HELP.....please!!! |
So I guess I need to go buy a carb rebuild kit and go tear it down. Thanks for the reply.

Check your oil to see if you've got gas in the oil.

Fixed.......I took the carb off and took it into my garage, and blew air through the needle valve hole.....it blew a big piece of trash out of the fuel inlet connection. Runs like a champ again.....Love the Cub!!!!
